Chinese Catering London
What is Chinese cuisine and what are its origins?
Have your chopsticks ready for the great authentic Chinese catering options available with Caterwings.
The origins of Chinese cuisine can be traced back over 4000 years, when wheat was first used to create noodles for soup rather than bread.
Chinese cuisine is an art; appearance and aroma are just as important as flavour.
As the Chinese philosopher Confucius said, "Rice must not be too white, meat not too finely cut and each dish must be maintaining yin and yang before the people will eat it."
After centuries of Chinese influence around Asia, this versatile cuisine has been adopted by many different countries in the West.
The Chinese food we’re most familiar with in the UK is Cantonese style, yet there are 7 other modern Chinese cuisine types for you to explore: Sichuan, Anhui, Fujian, Shandong, Hunan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
Authentic Chinese food uses a large range of ingredients from exotic sea foods to native Chinese fruits, vegetables and meats depending on the region.
You’ll find traditional meats such as chicken and duck, plus unusual ingredients like jellyfish and young octopus by the coast in the Fujian province.
Served with fluffy rice or noodles, you can expect bold flavours from zingy lemongrass and ginger to sweet and salty hoisin sauce.

Vegan & vegetarian Chinese catering
There’s a lot of variety in vegetarian Chinese meals – with 8 modern cuisine styles across the vast country, there’s plenty of vegetable options to pick from. Traditionally bean curd, rice, vegetable and noodle soup dishes were the most widely eaten meals while wild meats were hunted and consumed by the nobles. Here are just a few of the vegan and vegetarian Chinese cuisine dishes our caterers can provide:
Stir fried vegetables including babycorn, mushrooms and beansprouts make a healthy, low carb alternative meal.
Tofu is a traditional Chinese food that is made from soybeans and is a common alternative to meat. High in protein this is available in dishes from many of our caterers.
Seaweed salad (known as Hiyashi Wakame salad) is just one of the exciting vegetarian dishes we’d recommend you try.
Many rice dishes are served with black bean, oyster and Sichuan pepper sauces, bringing fragrance, depth and complexity to traditional dishes.
Soya, sesame seeds and peanuts are some of the widely used ingredients in Chinese cuisine, among other allergy triggering ingredients. Let us know of any specific dietary requirements you have so we can personalise your order to fit.
Ideas on what to order
On our website you’ll find that each caterer will specify how much food each meal or dish serves per head, so you know you’re always ordering enough food for everyone. 4 dumplings are usually ample for 1 person as part of a meal or you can order a mix of different dishes for everyone to try.
Here are a few stand-out dishes we love:
Dimsum is a dish of Chinese dumplings. Fried or steamed, these are bitesize treats.
Won Ton soup is a great dish that’s surprisingly filling. The “Won Tons” are much like little dumplings, filled with prawns, beef and other flavoursome ingredients.
Jasmine rice is a fresh alternative to the usual fluffy rice. The delicate flavour of this long grain rice brings a more vibrant character to your meal.
How the cuisine will be served is up to you.
You could opt for no-fuss finger food including savoury satay chicken skewers and crispy spring rolls or try set meals from Won Ton soup to sweet and sour meat dishes.
If you’re struggling to pick out a few items you like from our menus, choosing a buffet is a great solution where you can serve up a huge variety of different meals for guests to try.
Whatever you decide to order, our caterers will ensure that your meals are delivered on time, ready to eat and at the highest standard.
